Our guest speaker was Mr. John Kurtz, attorney, who provided primary legal counsel to the "Save The School Campaign" spearheaded by Sharon Teague McCone, Class of 1965. We also hosted members of the Paseo 18, both Juniors and Seniors in 1990, who strove to save the original Paseo High School building.

Diane Huston Henderson '60
spoke at our Summer luncheon, our first at the Grand Street Cafe next to the Plaza Winstead's. 
Diane’s School of Dance, which she founded, is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2013 and has nearly 1000 students, making it one of the largest dance studios in the country.  According to a friend, Diane is not just a dance teacher but a life teacher. She stresses to the girls to be ladies, moral, and kind. Many girls have come back over the years to tell her about sad, unhappy homes. They state that her dance school was a safe, happy place to come.  We were pleased that Diane agreed to speak at the luncheon.  See event photos    See more on Diane's School of Dance

January 28, 2013   Our guest speaker was Larry R. Lee, Paseo '56.  Larry's experiences and accomplishments may be reviewed here.  We had a great turnout with more than 75 "old Pirates" who enjoyed Larry's accounting of events of yesteryear.

July 30, 2012, Herb Kohn, Paseo '56, spoke to a packed room full of Pirate Alumni at the Leawood Hereford House.  Herb is a Partner with Bryan Cave LLP who practices corporate, business and banking law. He has served as a leader in many important civic activities for many years.  More ...        See event photos

 

April 30, 2012, our luncheon speaker was Bob Bernstein, co-founder of the Bernstein-Rein advertising agency and member of the Paseo Class of 1956.  The event drew nearly 100 participants, the latest in a series of record turnouts.  Bob related a number of fascinating experiences with McDonalds, Wal-Mart and many others.

January 23, 2012, our speaker was Giles Fowler, Paseo '51, former KC Star columnist, teacher at Iowa State U. Greenlee School of Journalism and communication, and author of Book of the Year, "Deaths on Pleasant Street.  Another record turnout was present to listen to his lively presentation about the incidents detailed in his book.

June 27, 2011   Our speaker was Ed "Gomer" Moody, Paseo '48, a wine expert and former KC mayoral candidate.  Cheerleaders of yesteryear were the theme of a photo display at the back of the room. Click here for Event Information     See event photos

 

March 28, 2011   Tony Sanders, Paseo '78, from the KCPD proved to be an enthusiastic and enjoyable professional whom we were fortunate to have speak to us.  Prior to his presentation, There was a good turnout and everyone enjoyed the chance to get together again.  Classes from 1943 to 1978 had members participating in the luncheon.

October 11, 2010   Phyllis Aaron Stevens, Paseo '57, gave a lively and interesting presentation at the Paseo Alliance Luncheon at Hereford House, Leawood Town Center, 117th & Roe.  Phyllis very graciously stepped on short notice when Bob Bernstein, Paseo '56, and co-founder of Bernstein-Rein Advertising , had a family emergency that prevented his appearance.  We hope to hear Bob at some future date.

February 10, 2010   Charles W Gusewelle, Paseo '51 and a long-time contributor to the KC Star, spoke at the Paseo Alliance Luncheon at Hereford House, Leawood Town Center, 117th & Roe.  The entire upstairs room was filled with about 66 participants from the classes of 1945 through 1965.   Many of those at the luncheon were first-timers and said that they would be attending future events.  Gusewelle Photo and bio.

IMG_0324.jpg (115549 bytes) The 3RD ANNUAL PASEO ALLIANCE PICNIC drew  Pirate alumnae to Loose Park on Sunday, October 4, 2009  The group enjoyed hot dogs, soft drinks and a variety of dishes provided by the participants.  The group photos included about 2/3 of the participants. Thirty-one former Pirates gathered to renew old friendships and meet others from different classes.  The participants' classes covered a 21-year span from 1946 to 1965, with the majority from classes of the 1950's.  There was a display of memorabilia and a presentation on the history project that the Paseo Alliance has begun.  more...

Around 75 Pirates gathered at the Loose Park Pavilion for fun and fellowship.  Some came early for coffee and doughnuts, while others arrived later to visit and have lunch.  Classes from 1954 to 1962 were represented.

 

The December 2007 meeting of the Paseo Alliance

was held in the Roselle Court of the Nelson Atkins Art Museum on Wednesday, December 5, 2007.  Following the meeting several members toured the new Bloch wing of the museum.

A group of about 30 former Pirates gathered to eat, drink and enjoy each other's company.  Hot dogs and hamburgers were provided, while participants brought other dishes and drinks.  Despite a rainy afternoon the picnic was declared by all to be a success.
