Although born in Paola, KS, the seventh child of Perry S. Moody and Frances L. Moody, on April 7, 1931 he considers himself a native of Kansas City, having lived in Kansas City, MO. since he was one year old.
Moody received his basic education in the Kansas City public school system, graduating from Paseo High School in 1948.
He attended the University of Missouri at Columbia for three semesters, and then entered the U. S. Army to serve in Korea.
On return from the service, Moody enrolled at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS, graduating in 1957 with a degree in Political Science. While at KU he formed and coached an independent intramural football team which competed with twenty teams, most of which were highly organized fraternity teams. His team won the "hill championship" beating the organized houses for the first time in over thirty years.
After receiving his degree from the University of Kansas he accepted a job with the Fidelity & Deposit Company of Maryland as a special agent. During his career with the Fidelity & Deposit he achieved recognition as one of the top producers in the company. After fifteen years with the F & D, five of which he served as branch manager of the Kansas City, MO office, he resigned to form and develop a chain of retail gasoline stations with my lifetime friend, Robert McLeroy. The company has been highly successful and now does business in four states.
A division of the company is the nationally known Gomer's Fine Wine & Spirits Store of Kansas City, MO.
